Diverse Mix of Retail, Craft and Food Experiences

For a small town, Waikouaiti has a lot going on. Here are our three top picks.

Those with an artistic bent will want to visit the studio and gallery of potter Peter Gregory and painter Laura Gregory, located in the Old Post Office. The gallery is sited in the former public counter section (complete with the original counter) while the studio was once the post office’s mail sorting room.

Beano’s Pies is an artisan bakery located on the site of one of Waikouaiti’s oldest shops, the general store. All its products – from different styles of breads to cakes and biscuits – plus the ubiquitous must-try pies – are made on the premises.

Evansdale Cheese is a justly famous boutique cheese factory making delicious and unusual herbs which are very popular with locals and visitors alike. Based at the old Cherry Farm mental institution at Hawksbury, Evansdale has a factory retail outlet which sells the full range of its products.
